From Google’s voice search to self-driving cars, the artificial intelligence is progressing rapidly.  While science fiction often portrays AI as robots with human-like characteristics, AI can encompass anything from Google’s search algorithms to IBM’s Watson to autonomous weapons. US, China and India are the top three countries who are leading the AI race.

Artificial Intelligence is a area of computer science that emphasises the creation of intelligence machines that  work and react like humans. They perform tasks requiring human intelligence such as gaming, expert systems, vision systems, speech recognition, handwriting recognition and visual perception.

The field of AI research was founded in Dartmouth College during the summer of 1956. Interest in AI boomed in the first decades of 21st century, when machine learning was applied successfully applied to solve to many problems in academia and industry. Over the years it has gained prominence with robots taking over humans for job which would lead to over of its existence.

Gaming: AI plays crucial role in strategic games such as chess, poker, tic-tac-toe etc. Where machine can think of large number of possible positions based on heuristic knowledge.

Natural Language Processing: It is possible to interact with the computer that understands natural language spoken by humans.

Expert Systems: There are some applications which integrate machine, software, and special information to impart reasoning and advising. They provide explanation and advice to the users.

Vision Systems: These systems understand, interpret, and comprehend visual input on the computer. For eg: A spying aeroplane takes photographs, which are used to figure out spatial information or map of the areas.

Speech Recognition: Some intelligent systems are capable of hearing and comprehending the language in terms of sentences and their meanings while a human talks to it. It can handle different accents, slang words, noise in the background, change in human’s noise due to cold, etc.

Handwriting Recognition: The handwriting recognition software reads the text written on paper by a pen or on screen by a stylus. It can recognise the shapes of the letters and convert it into editable text.

Intelligent Robots: Robots are able to perform the tasks given by a human. They have sensors to detect physical data from the real world such as light, heat, temperature, movement, sound, bump, and pressure. They have efficient processors, multiple sensors and huge memory to exhibit intelligence. In addition, they are capable of learning from their mistakes and they can adapt to the new environment.

MACHINES WILL OVERPOWER US: Recently, Facebook had to shutdown their chatbots which made up their own way of communication. With AI developing it’s own code with no human help, humankind is entering the unknown. Such incidents are the beginning of a bleak future scenario. A time will come when these robots and machines will rule our minds.

TECH DEPENDENT: Today we are living in a superficial world where hacking has become quite common in the world. We are not using our brains because we are tech-dependent which will lead to turn ourselves artificial. Machines have invaded our lives and from now on, if we fail to control its impact in key areas of medical, defence and telecommunication etc. One day AI will be our masters and humanity will become slaves.

JOB LOSS: The rise of AI will lead to loss of jobs and unemployment because machines and robots might take over the world. For eg: while taking order in the restaurants and counting cash in the bank, which will impact people who have been doing these jobs until now.

I feel that AI is the biggest existential threat to the humans which will lead to lot of problems in the upcoming years.

  1. Hi Krishna, nice knowing you! Your blog is quite informative and interesting. I feel AI is a double-edged sword which can be used to our advantage, just look at the advancements in the medical field, for example. Once we put controls and processes in place, AI can help mankind and not overpower. It’s in the hands of the future generation, enthusiastic teenagers like you should take a lead! 😊 wish you good luck👍 Btw thanks for the likes and the follow! I’m happy you liked my blog.
